Wanderings and Wonderings

Where did we get it so wrong?  Don’t mistake the sentiment of my words…but seriously where did we get it so wrong?  In everything else that the world does, we change and celebrate the difference and refuse to budge in our consistent passion for change and yet as soon as we get to Christmas we resort to Victorian antiquity and tradition.  The Christmas tradition we inherited can only separate us from any ‘true meaning’ of Christmas…I mean seriously the pattern of ‘Away in a Manger’ and ‘Little Donkey’…when did that become credible?  I become more convinced that we would have been better placed to keep Saturnalia and be fighting an anti-pagan war.  How did the common consumer concrete christmas sneak in the back door and take us away from worshipping just as we are prepared to do 51 weeks a year? If only the blinkers could be taken off and we could take stock of what we had become.  The church has become an institution that is prepared to provide tradition for tradition’s sake 2 weeks of the year, when at other times we would be horrified at such a position.  I want to make a stand and yet the masses continue to speak.  God…I know you’re listening…show us where we got it wrong, and show me where I got it wrong.  So be it.
